Begin by setting up the email in your email service provider (ESP), and then follow the steps below to paste the HTML snippet that appears in the experience's Final HTML for this experience modal into the email.
Adding the HTML Snippet to the ESP Email Template
On the left of this composite screenshot is a sample ESP HTML code. On the right is the corresponding email preview.
For this example, the image at the top of the email body is personalized with content from Monetate. The code for this image as well as the image's placeholder are highlighted in this composite screenshot.
To add the personalized content to the email, paste the HTML code snippet generated in the Monetate platform into the <body>
of the email's HTML in your ESP. Ensure that you paste the HTML snippet from the platform exactly where you want the image to appear. If you're replacing an existing image from the template, be sure to remove the original <img>
element so that you don't send both the original static image and the personalized image.
Adding Multiple Snippets to the Email Template
You can create an email experience with multiple content areas in Monetate. Each content area has its own snippet to place in the HTML code of your ESP's email template. When you generate the HTML for an email experience that has multiple content areas, it splits up the snippets as pictured below.
When working with multiple content areas and their snippets, follow the same process that's explained in Adding the HTML Snippet to the ESP Email Template for each snippet. Ensure you add both snippets to the HTML code exactly where you want them to appear. You can add the second image anywhere else in the email.
This screenshot shows the Content Area 2 HTML snippet inserted into the sidebar image section of the email source code.
Repeat this process for each additional image you have. Once you finish placing the snippets, you can finish building the email.
Testing the Final HTML
Once you've created the email in your ESP and have added the HTML snippet(s) to enable personalization, you're ready to send the email.
If you want to test the final HTML code before sending the email experience to all subscribers, you can send it to a few team members. Because tracking occurs for every email you send, you should keep the number of test emails low to minimize any unwanted impact on the email experience results. The test email you send uses actual experience targeting rules, so you or any of the test recipients may not qualify for the dynamic content.
