Delete a Product Catalog Dataset

This content is only for clients with the one-click DATASETS option in the top navigation bar. If you click DATASETS and see Product Data and Customer Data listed as menu options, then this content doesn't apply to your account. Instead, see Delete a Product Catalog.

For some reason you may need to delete a product catalog dataset from the Monetate platform. Doing so may require you to assign a different default product catalog if the dataset that you want to delete is connected to one or more domains in your account, as well as to select a different dataset if the dataset that you want to delete is used in any recommendation strategies.

Follow these steps to delete a product catalog dataset.

  1. Click DATASETS in the top navigation bar.
  2. Click Product Catalogs in the left-hand category listing.

Callout of the 'Product Catalogs' option in the left-hand category listing on the Datasets list page

  3. Scroll as necessary to find the product catalog that you want to delete. If 0 Connected domains appears in the CONNECTED DOMAINS column, continue to the next step. If the product catalog is the default one for one or more domains, then assign a new one to the connected domain(s).
    1. Click DEFAULT CATALOG ASSIGNMENTS.

Callout of the 'DEFAULT CATALOG ASSIGNMENTS' button on the Product Catalogs list page

    2. Select a different default product catalog from DEFAULT CATALOG for each domain that currently has the product catalog that you want to delete as its default.

Callout of the DEFAULT CATALOG selector for one of the account's domains on the 'Default Catalog Assignments' modal. The domain currently has as its default catalog the product catalog dataset that a user wants to delete.

    3. Click the checkbox to acknowledge you understand the possible implications of reassigning default product catalogs, and then click SAVE.

Callout of the checkbox accompanying the acknowledgement statement and of the 'SAVE' button on the 'Default Catalog Assignments' modal

    4. Scroll as necessary to find the product catalog that you want to delete on the Product Catalogs list page, and then confirm that 0 Connected domains now appears in the CONNECTED DOMAINS column.

Callout of the '0 Connected domains' message in the 'CONNECTED DOMAINS' column of a product catalog dataset on the Product Catalogs list page

  4. Click the name of the product catalog, click the additional options menu (...), and then click Delete Dataset.

If the product catalog you are deleting is not part of any other feature or function within the platform, then clicking Delete Dataset immediately deletes the catalog. No confirmation prompt appears.

Callout of the additional options menu and of the 'Delete Dataset' option

  5. If the product catalog is part of any recommendation strategy, regardless if that strategy is used in any active or inactive experience, then you must select a replacement product catalog for each strategy listed in the Delete Catalog modal.

Callout of the 'PRODUCT CATALOG' selector in the 'Delete Catalog' modal

  6. Click the checkbox to acknowledge you understand the possible implications of reassigning product catalogs, and then click SAVE CHANGES AND DELETE.

Callout of the checkbox accompanying the acknowledgement statement and of the 'SAVE CHANGES AND DELETE' button

After the product catalog is deleted, the All Datasets list page loads with a message confirming the deletion.

The only way to restore a product catalog that you deleted is to create it as if it were a brand new catalog, starting with creating the schema.
